JOHN O’BRIEN

John leverages his career-long passions of technology, journalism, and communications to put clients in the headlines. His career spans cover stories, broadcast hits, and headlines for some of tech’s biggest names, including Amazon (AWS), Box, Coinbase, DARPA, Facebook, GE, Relativity Space, Stripe, The Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence, VMware and many more.

Prior to co-founding Strange Brew, he spent eight years at The OutCast Agency, most recently as Vice President of Media Strategy, following spans at The Horn Group and Weber Shandwick. His broadcast and journalism career began as an intern for The Daily Show with Jon Stewart before assuming writing, production, and reporting roles at CNN’s headquarters in Atlanta.

DAVE DONOHUE

Dave tells unconventional stories that resonate with executives, PR professionals and marketing teams. He’s challenged assumptions of companies like Dell, EMC, Facebook, Shopify, TurboTax and VMware while helping change their conversation with their customers.

Dave spent five years at Unified, an award-winning marketing technology software company as a founding member of the executive team overseeing marketing and corporate communications. He started as Unified’s eighth employee and left when the company had grown to 180 employees, having raised over $50 million in capital and serving an ever-expanding Fortune 500 customer base. He spent the previous seven years at The OutCast Agency, ending his tenure there as Vice President of Media Strategy. He served as an advisor to Mozy through its $76 million acquisition by EMC after having raised just $2 million in venture financing.

VICE-PRESIDENT, MEDIA STRATEGIST

EMILY O’BRIEN

Emily (coincidentally also an O’Brien but no relation to John) is a media maven with nearly two decades of media relations experience, predominantly across the tech/Silicon Valley landscape. With a knack for connecting people and ideas, she thrives on asking the right questions to land national headlines.

Her career covers the gamut working alongside executives within tech giants including Amazon (AWS), GitHub, Philips, GE, Tanium and Facebook to consumer-focused clients such as Sephora, Taos Ski Valley and Minted. Prior to joining SBS, Emily most recently served as Vice President of Media Strategy for The OutCast Agency. When she’s not concentrating on the national story, Emily has garnered a unique appreciation for the inner workings of municipalities having been elected to her local City Council.

CLAUDIA TRAVERSO

Claudia helps brands and business leaders gain credibility and demonstrate authority in their industries. She’s spent the past decade supporting global technology companies like Amazon, Facebook, General Electric, Intuit and more. Through tailored thought leadership and content creation programs, Claudia excels at delivering meaningful communications results.

Before working with Strange Brew, Claudia spent eight years at The OutCast Agency in San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York where she led teams and provided strategic direction on campaigns, launches, events and ongoing PR programs. She then began her own consultancy based in the Bay Area.

LAUREL TONEY

Laurel brings boundless curiosity, an innate passion for storytelling and an approach informed by working alongside entrepreneurs to her work. In the course of her career, she’s launched seedling startups to fanfare, transformed unknown brands into household names, and help companies successfully navigate the changing media and marketing landscape with integrated, innovative strategies. Prior to joining the Strange Brew team, Laurel led global communications at Berlin-based mobile fitness & nutrition startup 8fit. She was also a part of the corporate communications team at fintech startup SoFi, and cut her teeth at The Hatch Agency in San Francisco. She’s developed and executed B2B and B2C communications strategies that spanned earned, owned and paid channels for companies in a wide range of industries including enterprise software, healthcare tech, consumer software and hardware, e-commerce and lifestyle, social enterprises, and IoT.

SENIOR MEDIA & CONTENT STRATEGIST

SAMAR MARWAN

Samar (Summer) is a master of media with a focus on tech, cannabis, and the MENA region. She formerly served as the West Coast assistant editor of technology at Forbes, reporting on cannabis and Silicon Valley. Previously, the San Francisco native was a contributing writer for BuzzFeed, Elite Daily, and Thought Catalog before venturing east to write for the Cairo-based lifestyle platform, Scoop Empire. Currently, Marwan sits on the Builders Board of BAYCAT – a Bay Area nonprofit focused on educating and empowering underserved youth interested in digital media arts.

ACCOUNT MANAGER

TENAYA GOLDSEN

Tenaya is passionate about taking complex technologies and creating digestible and meaningful stories. Her experience spans artificial intelligence, blockchain, cryptocurrency and fintech – having worked with industry leading corporations and innovative disruptors including Alphabet’s Verily, Baidu, Coinbase, Ernst & Young, Helix, Hilton Worldwide, Mindstrong Health, MoneyLion, and Western Union. Prior to Strange Brew, Tenaya worked with tech, corporate, and financial clientele at Grayling in both London and San Francisco.

ACCOUNT COORDINATOR

CAMERON TURNER

A recent college graduate, Cameron brings high energy and a fresh perspective to Strange Brew. After obtaining her B.A. in Politics from UC Santa Cruz, Cameron completed the Public Relations internship program at Udemy, where she supported corporate communications efforts and media outreach for the online teaching and learning marketplace. Cameron is passionate about storytelling and has a keen interest in companies which leverage technology for the greater good.
